It is nothing but a mental health disorder which disturbs your normal activities like eating, sleeping and thinking. Depression has to be treated properly else the person affected may go to any extent like committing suicide. It is far more dangerous than it seems. There are many symptoms which reveal the existence of depression disorder. Few of them are; decrease in energy, fatigue, irritability, thoughts of suicide, digestive disorders and so on. These are some of the common symptoms. There are many severe symptoms and they vary from person to person.

Signs of Depression

There are many signs of depression and it will vary from one person to the next.  Since depression is a serious illness and can lead to other serious problems, the sooner you get treatment, the faster you will recover. The bad thing about depression is that it won’t disappear on its own and only get worse.

To get a better idea of what the signs of depression are, below are some of the common ones:

  • Low self-esteem
  • Prefer to be alone most of the time
  • Can’t concentrate
  • Feelings of hopelessness
  • Feeling sad most of the time
  • Have suicidal thoughts
  • Have a hard time making decisions

A person can have one or more of these signs of depression.  It’s normal to feel sad for a couple days or have a stressful day.  It’s also normal to have a hard time making decisions when you have a lot on your mind or if the decision can change your life.  However, depression is something entirely different. If it’s been two weeks and you are still feeling sad, it’s not normal.

The signs of depression can be very noticeable in many cases.  Someone who is depressed might cry for no apparent reason.  In the worse case, they might not want to get out of bed.  With milder cases, the person might have be unable to make the simplest decision such as choosing which clothes to where for work.  People with depression can have a hard time functioning at work or at home.

The key to identifying depression is to watch for patterns or continual worsening of the symptoms.  If this goes one for more than 2 weeks, you should seek help from another family member or get professional help.  The sooner you get it treated, the quicker you will recover and get your life back.
